Growing to heights over 100’, the northern red oak is a sturdy tree that will do well in a range of soil conditions. The Northern Red Oak produces durable timber products, making it economically important. While deer gobble up acorns from the white oak species first, red oak mast still plays a valuable role in sustaining wildlife through the winter. Deer will utilize and benefit from red oak acorns well in to the winter months, long after the white oak acorns have been consumed.
