The Murray Cypress is an improved variety of the immensely popular Leyland Cypress. The Murray Cypress possesses superior disease and pest resistance when compared with the traditional leyland, especially in the Southeast. Another improvement over the Leyland is the Murray Cypress’s ability to tolerate a wider range of soils.

With a growth rate that can reach 4’ per year, the Murray Cypress is probably the most popular tree for creating a hedge or screen. For an application where a quick screening effect is desired, we recommend planting on a 5’ spacing.

We do not recommend the use of grow tubes when establishing Murray Cypress.
