The Johnson Keeper Apple was discovered in 2013 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. However, it is widely accepted that the Johnson Keeper apple is a re-discovery of the lost Johnson Red Winter Apple. The Johnson Red Winter originated in Jackson, MS in the late 1800’s.
This selection drops fruit in October and November and is a tried and true southern selection. The fruit can be described as crisp and tart and is exceptional at keeping fresh for several weeks.
