Mattamuskeet Apple

The name comes from Lake Mattamuskeet in North Carolina. Legend has it that the first tree originated from a seed taken from gizzard of a goose. Proven as strong producer in the south, the Mattamuskeet Apple produces medium to large fruit that drops in November. The apples are rust-red in color. Keeping for an exceptionally long time, the apples have been traditionally valued for cooking.
