A member of the white oak family, it’s hard to beat the swamp chestnut oak when you’re looking for highly attractive mast production. I’ve spent many eventful, fall afternoons under the canopy of a swamp chestnut, watching deer and listening to enormous acorns drop. One advantage of the swamp chestnut oak over a true white oak (Quercus alba) is a that the swamp chestnut has a little longer drop period, continuing to provide attraction through November.
